Taste of Chicago Returns to July After 3-Year Shift

After a noticeable shift in recent years, the Taste of Chicago is officially returning to its traditional summer timing.

From 2023 through 2025 (3 years total), the city’s iconic food festival was pushed from its usual July dates into September. The move was made to accommodate the NASCAR Chicago Street Race, which took over Grant Park during the 4th of July weekend, forcing The Taste to find a new slot.

Now, with NASCAR no longer scheduled in Chicago for 2026, the Taste returns to Grant Park from July 8–12, reclaiming its traditional summer timing.

What to expect at Taste of Chicago 2026

If you’ve been before, the core experience stays the same but it continues to evolve.

Here’s what you can expect this year:

Food vendors from across Chicago

Dozens of restaurants, food trucks, and pop-ups will serve everything from classic Chicago staples to global cuisine. Past years have featured 40–60+ vendors, and 2026 is expected to follow a similar scale.

Free admission + pay-as-you-go food

Entry remains free, with food and drinks available for purchase directly from vendors.

Live music + entertainment

Expect a mix of local and national artists performing throughout the weekend, along with cultural programming and activities.

Neighborhood pop-ups

The city has been expanding Taste beyond downtown with smaller events in neighborhoods across Chicago—something likely to continue alongside the main festival.

Why the move back to July matters

For decades, the Taste of Chicago has been synonymous with summer in the city. The September experiment worked logistically, but it came with trade-offs with cooler weather, competing fall schedules, and mixed feedback from vendors and attendees.

The return to July signals a reset:

  • More alignment with peak tourism season
  • Longer days and warmer weather
  • A stronger tie to Chicago’s summer festival culture

In short: it feels like The Taste is back where it belongs.

Are there Black-owned vendors?

It better be! The 2026 vendor list has not yet been released. Once announced, BLK Chicago will release a curated guide to Black-owned vendors participating in this year’s Taste.
