WEMADE, co-founded by Briahna Gatlin and Carol Johnson, held the third annual fundraiser and celebration at the Garfield Park Conservatory March 28th. The night of female history in the making highlights women who are within different careers and communities that are making impactful accolades within their careers. This was a celebration that closed Women’s History Month with the recognition of 25 women who made their way within the industry. Honorees included Aris Singleton (TGIN CEO), Martine Carvel (Executive Director of Umjimaa Medics), Chef Maryam Ishitaq, Sheila Rashad, and so many more.
The event was hosted by WGCI’s Bree Specific with live sounds by both DJ EvieTheCool and LoveDay. The day included live performances by Spoken Word artist Anaya Fraizer and musical performances by Moyana and Leah. The bar’s happy hour was sponsored by a Latina owned brand, 1349 Tequila, and the food may not have been prepared by a woman, but it was provided by FOX’s Next Level Chef, Chef Brandon, giving guests a taste of Beyond Catering. To add to this experience, Live From The Living Room was in attendance to interview guests and honorees in addition to a silent auction and giveaway.
This night wasn’t just a win for the honorees, it was a vibe for everybody in the room. A chance to mix, build, and make connections that could shift the game long after the lights came up. It was the perfect setting for entrepreneurs, creatives, business executives, and community leaders to hear words of inspiration and insight that will last for generations.
This night brought women from all walks together, lifting each other up, standing in power, and adding their magic to the legacy of greatness we’ve always been a part of. This was also the perfect way to close Women’s History Month with a celebration of empowerment and foundations that will last for generations.
